Tommy’s New for Old campaign: recycle old shoes, £10 off new ones AND help save tiny lives

Anyone looking for a good excuse to revamp their shoe collection after the winter months can get a helping hand from Brantano – and in turn give baby charity Tommy’s a helping hand to save tiny lives.

newforoldOn Monday 27th February 2012 the ‘New for Old’ campaign with Tommy’s & Brantano Footwear launches: the campaign asks people to give shoes they no longer want to their nearest Brantano store nationwide from Monday 27th February to Sunday 25th March.  Brantano will donate 20p to Tommy’s for every pair of shoes handed in, to help fund the charity’s research into pregnancy complications such as miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.

Furthermore, customers who bring in their old shoes will also receive a £10 off voucher to redeem against any purchases of £40 or more at Brantano Footwear – giving you further help when it comes to kick-starting your spring wardrobe.

Tommy’s funds vital research into pregnancy complications, in the hope that fewer families in the UK suffer the trauma of losing a baby at pregnancy or birth.

Unfortunately pregnancy complications – such as premature birth, miscarriage and stillbirth – are more common than people think:

  • 1 in 4 UK women lose a baby at pregnancy or birth
  • Every day in England and Wales alone, around 290 women experience a miscarriage, approximately 149 babies are born prematurely and 10 babies are stillborn.
  • In Scotland, about 25 women experience a miscarriage and 2 babies are born preterm every day, and one baby is stillborn every second day.

This is why Tommy’s funds internationally-renowned research into pregnancy problems.  The charity also provides a free information service to educate all parents-to-be about health in pregnancy, and offers bereavement counselling support for anyone that has lost a baby during pregnancy or birth.

‘New for Old’ will be running from Monday 27th February to Sunday 25th March 2012 in all Brantano stores nationwide. For more information visit www.tommys.org/newforold and for your nearest store go to www.brantano.co.uk

Plum’s turning 6 today, and you’re invited to join the celebrations!!!

Ever since Plum were founded back in 2004 (but launched in 2006) by mum-of-three and cookery-school owner Susie Willis, Plum’s aim has been to offer busy parents a prepared baby food that’s every bit as good as homemade.

Yes, you heard it right – and they go to great lengths to make sure each and every recipe and every single ingredient is as nutritious, well-made and downright delicious as they possibly can make it. To give you two good examples of their focus on quality (some might call it an obsession), the organic Welsh lamb comes from an award-winning farm which also supplies several Michelin-starred restaurants, and the blueberries are a wild European variety that’s handpicked from forests in Poland and Scandinavia. Not bad for baby food – but then again, Plum isn’t just baby food… it’s real food for babies!

As they enter their seventh year, they’re going to really start banging the drum about the ingredients (which are very special) and their carefully-crafted recipes (which are very delicious). As part of the celebrations, they’re going to be giving away a massive SIX WEEKS’ WORTH of Plum baby food every hour between 6am and 6pm! (For an idea of just how massive that is, take a look at the picture below – it’s a lot!) To enter, simply ‘like’ their Facebook page, and then you’ll be placed in all the rest of the draws for the day. You can also double your chances of winning by sharing the competition announcement on your own Wall by following the simple instructions after you have entered.

As well, one lucky family will win an unforgettable birthday party of their own, to make their baby’s next birthday extra-special. They’ll draw this prize from all the entries received throughout the day.
